Grapevine, Texas 76051

In today's tough economy, businesses all over the world are looking for ways to do more with less and building owners and operators here in Texas are no different.  That's why the focus of the green building movement is shifting from new construction to existing buildings.

Discover how LEED-EB:  Operations and Maintenance and the BOMA 360 Performance Program are changing the way building owners and operators (as well as the design community) are approaching their physical assets.

Hear what Tim Cole, the incoming chair of the U.S. Green Building Council, and Ray Mackey, the incoming chair of BOMA International, have to say about the state of the building industry, sustainability and the future of their organizations.  You'll also hear nationally-renowned speakers present a range of topics from energy and water efficiency to green building ROI.

Toward a Water Wise Future: The Rewards of Rain and Grey Water Harvesting
Thursday, October 1, 2009
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Wilson Office Interiors
1444 Oak Lawn Avenue, St. 545
Dallas, Texas 75207

As fresh water sources in many parts of the country have been stressed by population growth, and public water supplies have been dwindling due to drought and waste, the USGBC has increased its focus on the elimination of potable water and other natural water resources for landscape irrigation, as evidenced in its LEED 2009 Water Efficiency Credits for water efficient landscaping and increased emphasis in the Regionalization Credits. To conserve resources, municipalities and other local water utilities continue to impose ever more drastic restrictions on the use of domestic treated (tap) water for lawns and other landscape areas. And from an economic standpoint, the water that is available is becoming dramatically more expensive to all water users than it has been in the past.

Please join the USGBC North Texas Chapter at the Wilson Office Interiors Showroom on October 1, 2009, for an evening discussion of water harvesting at both the commercial and residential scale.

Chris Miles with GreenCraft Builders will discuss residential water harvesting and other strategies, using actual built case studies in the D/FW region.
Anthony Martin of Henderson Engineers will discuss the MEP side of commercial water harvesting.
Robert Croysdale with GSR Andrade Architects will examine the cost benefits and LEED 2009 implications with rainwater harvesting.

Movie Night -  Kilowatt Ours
Free Event!  Just show up.
Tuesday, September 29, 2009
6:30 p.m. (Doors open at 6:00)
Dallas Center for Architecture
1909 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, St. 100
Dallas, Texas 75201

Award-winning film Kilowatt Ours: A Plan to Re-Energize America is a timely, solutions-oriented look at one of America's most pressing environmental challenges: energy.

Filmmaker Jeff Barrie offers hope as he turns the camera on himself and asks, "How can I make a difference?" In his journey Barrie explores the source of our electricity and the problems caused by energy production including mountain top removal, childhood asthma and global warming. Along the way he encounters individuals, businesses, organizations, and communities who are leading the way, using energy conservation, efficiency and renewable, green power all while saving money and the environment.

This often amusing and always inspiring story shows, "You can easily make a difference and here's how!"
